My route is losing money. Why?
Four causes, and they need opposite fixes. The route card tells you which one you have.
- Load factor under about 60% — too many seats for the market. Fly it less often, or put a smaller aircraft on it. This is much more common than too few passengers.
- Load factor near 100% and still thin — your fare is too low. Raise it: you are turning away nobody and leaving money on the table.
- Long sector, small aircraft — fuel and crew scale with distance and the seats do not. Check the aircraft ranking in Network before committing.
- Route economics says the coverage is over 120% — you have more seats than the sector can absorb, and the fix is to take an aeroplane off it, not to discount.
